The baskets are metal so if you have a “plastic” smell, it’s not from the basket. After using my Airfryer several times making Airfry Salmon, my unit no longer had any weird smells. Plus, it never affected the taste of the food. I’ve been using mine for about 1 year now and the only smell it gives off is the delicious scent of the tasty food I prepared. I’m not sure what you actually mean when you say you ran it though several “long cycles”? That neither tells me the time or temperature nor which cooking “method” you chose. My recommendation would be to “Airfry” some salmon a couple of times or egg rolls/spring rolls. Try something that tends to be a little oily etc …

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, not really. It takes some time for all of the volatile components to come out. Washing the baskets and plates in a dish washer seems to work better than hand washing. It took a while, but eventually the odor went away in my fryer.
