You're not wrong, they're trying to get more money out of you. You're probably better off not buying either, but if you have to buy a protection plan, a yearly subscription is a bad idea.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. As with all plans it depends on you. Geek squad protection covers incidental damages and spills. It also covers normal failures associated with electronics. Most of the things included are not free at all. For instance, data transfer from you old to new laptop is 99.99 that is free with total tech. Virus removal and troubleshooting issues with your PC. The biggest advantage for total tech is when you are a frequent shopper. It will cover 90% of the items you buy automatically. That means you could have a kitchen full of appliances and 3 tvs all covered for up to 2 years (with some things giving the option to do monthly payments to continue the warranty). In that case the value is 10 fold. Now if you never shop at best buy except for 1 tv a year. The GSP for 5 years is probably the better choice. Warranties are always the right choice. As technology continues to advance it becomes more complicated. This often means there is way more going on to make things work. This means more chances for you things to fail. I have worked at many difference electronics stores and the amount of people that tell me they are buying new things because of failure is astronomical. That being said, you can always roll the dice to save a couple 100 dollars and you may not need it at all.
