The bottom plugs in with a chord, but to pour you take the kettle off the heating mechanism and the kettle itself doesn’t have a cord.

There is a cord under the base for the kettle. It's wrapped around a circle under the center of the base and there is a little cutout for the cord to fit under so the base can sit flush on the surface.
