will it pick up pea size dog food null

I find that it does pick up small pieces, but sometimes you have to vacuum over it a couple of times. Mostly picks up animal fur from carpet.

Yes...also the hand held application has a wide opening for bigger items

You could probably do so using the detachable sweeper.
