• You do not, I played the whole game without one. The subscription is only required if you want to play the online mode where you see player messages and can be invaded/invade others.

• You only need to pay for Playstation Plus if you're going to be playing co-op or pvp. Otherwise you can play the entire game singleplayer without needing to pay for anything else.
