There is an OTA version of the TiVo. Just make sure you get that if your not going to pay for a cable signal.

You need the TIVO Roamio OTA.

No it is not OTA capable, strictly cable service only. I was disappointed about this feature but decided the 6 tuners with 3TB of hard drive space was worth the difference. I figure if I ever want a DVR for OTA I'll just purchase a TiVo Roamio as it comes with a lifetime subscription to the TiVo service included in its purchase price.

the fire stick does not record anything. it only streams from the available services like netflix, amazon prime, hulu etc.
