Actutally, you can only operate the controls with the door open! They are not accessible when the door is closed, granite counter tops, or no!

I have granite also. You can reach your finger under granite and press the Stop/Start button. I asked the same question at Best Buy.

Hi there, thank you for your question. Yes, you can hit start and when the door shuts, the cycle will start. Also, to let you know the cycle started, the info-light will shine onto the floor and will turn off when the cycle is completed.

no -- it closes with the controls inside -- you must open it to operate it.
