I have never used the active drying element on my old dishwasher. Never. Certainly the plastics are not quite dry at the end of the cycle; then it's maybe another 10-15 minutes afterwards with the top rack pulled out half way and the door partially open to complete the drying process. No big deal. Better for the environment, better for your wallet.

A:AnswerI think this is a case of the manual trying too hard to be helpful. The compartment in which you lay tablets (any brand) is so small the tablets will only fit one way no matter what. When the door is fully opened (laying down) the tablet will be on its side but if the door is only slightly opened (mostly in a vertical position) then I suppose you could say the tablet is laying flat. Probably the manual should simply state that care should be taken that the tablet is placed in the compartment in such a way that the compartment door closes easily without binding. Or maybe just say nothing at all about tablet placement since it strikes me as a no-brainer issue even for the most technically challenged?

1. If the tub is not draining, it makes we wonder if the drain hose has a loop that goes up to the height of the dishwasher. The installation instructions say the drain line needs this loop to drain properly. I think it needs to be 33" high.
2. When the cycle is done, open the door a few inches and keep it open with the top rack. This unit uses condensing drying, rather than a heating coil at the bottom, probably for energy efficiency. If you let the hot vapor escape, the dishes dry well. Plastic items are the last to dry and may have a few drops on them, but no big deal.
A:AnswerThere are three racks in this model. The middle rack is adjustable to three positions vertically. We use it at the middle position which is high enough to clear our largest dinner plates placed in the bottom rack. Not so with the lowest position.
The very top rack is a small, drawer like tray which can accommodate utensils, container lids, knives, etc. It is outfitted to contain silverware, but we don't use it that way.
