I do not have mine hooked up to a water line so can not help you with the ice question. Concerning the temperature not staying lit up mine does not either. It only lights up when you press it to let you know what temperature you want to set it at. It is not meant to tell you the current temperature. I have purchased 2 thermometers (1 for the refrigerator and 1 for the freezers) so that I can keep track of the actual temperature. Had to set the refrigerator at 38 instead of the original 39 to keep it in the proper safe zone.
