Hi Terry, thanks for your question and interest in model# NITP060SUC. Please refer to the cookware section of the Use and Care manual starting on page 9. Here is a link to the manual: https://bit.ly/3X5cA5q
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. From their manual: 1. The use of undersized cookware will expose a portionof the cooking zone to direct contact and may result inignition of clothing. Proper relationship of cookware tocooking zone will also improve efficiency. 2. In order to achieve a good cooking result, ensure that the ferromagnetic area of the cookware base corresponds to the size of the cooking zone. If the cookware is not detected on a cooking zone, place it on a cooking zone with a smaller diameter. 3. If you do not place a suitable item of cookware on the cooking zone within 90 seconds, it automatically switches off. 4. Each cooking zone has a minimum limit for the cookware detection and this depends on the ferromagnetic diameter and the material of the base of the cookware. There's a bit of CYA in there, but essentially, it's okay to use smaller cookware, but it's less efficient, and if you bring clothing with any magnetic properties nearby, you will be BURNED. This is just my opinion reading between the lines.
