My only other recommendation is to check the user guide for your HP online. I've never heard of a computer or laptop that didn't have a line out.
I have a Samsung laptop and plugged the cable that comes with the speakers into the headphone out jack. Hope this helps. Be sure to turn the volume to zero on your HP and use the volume control on the speaker only. The sound is great!
