As long as the wireless network reaches that area (or if you have a hardwired network connection available in that space), you can have your surround speakers anywhere you want them. I've added Play1 speakers on different floors in the past, and during the setup it asks if it will be part of my Home Theater or a stand alone. You'll see the same question when you add your new speaker to your account.
