Thank you for the great question! Depending on your systems connector panel, you can connect the SoundTouch adapter using one of the three cable options: Optical, Aux, and Analog. The adapter will also ship with three cables.

If you can connect your smart phone and play music through your stereo, then you can connect and use the sound touch. The sound touch wireless will allow you to stream music from the internet and other Bluetooth devices. I connected mine to a Sony receiver so I can stream XM radio and my wife can play her iTunes playlist from her tablet.
