“Could this work as a portable white noise generator? I just want to buffer general noise/sounds around me; but still be able to carry on a conversation or hear without he distraction of "entertainment" (music, etc.). If so, how?”

If your cellphone can play music to your Wearable, you could get a white noise mp3 from Amazon and just play it on the phone. You might have to turn it up pretty loud to mask the noise in a busy office.

I don't think it can produce static intentionally nor I have experienced static in daily use. It's a great product but do you really want to spend $299 for static? Maybe the Bose Hearphones are what you're looking for.
