Customers frequently mention the SoundWear Companion's excellent sound quality, comfort, and long battery life as significant advantages. Many also appreciate its lightweight design and ease of Bluetooth pairing. However, some find the speaker a bit bulky and the price somewhat high. A few users also noted concerns about the charging process and lack of privacy in certain situations.

This speaker is great and does not disappoint. It definitely produces the sound quality Bose is known for. The maximum sound output can be heard from another room. While you can definitely wear this around your neck; I often lay it on my desk while working and it acts as a desk speaker. You're able to adjust the volume for any level of sound. The volume controls are easily accessible for one touch operation. In my opinion the speaker is not heavy when worn on your neck. The call quality during calls isn't as loud compared to the music output. The speaker easily connects to an iPhone, but the call quality is staticky sometimes. During calls the other person will indicate they can't hear me well, or it sounds like I'm far away, but the speaker is around my neck. Another con with this speaker is the optional protection plan. I purchases the protection plan at about $60 which I'm glad I did. I definitely had to use it because the call quality continued to be a pain. Best Buy happily replaced the speaker and it was shipped to me. Be ware that once you use the warranty you have to repurchase the optional warranty again for the new speaker at the same price. FYI...The manufacturer will replace the speaker within the 1st year of purchase for free. So I would suggest using the manufacture's warranty, then utilize the Geek protection later if needed. For the price of the speaker I wish that Bose would provide a case for storage. I did find a very nice case for it on Amazon. Overall the speaker is a great investment; its allows you to have a Bose on the go!

I have a hearing loss do to age, I am an octogenarian +3, that puts me at 83 and counting. Being a veteran I have a new set of ReSound hearing aids, that can stream music straight to the hearing aids, or listen with the WWs (Wireless Wearables). When I listen to my classical music with my ReSound Aids and WWs, I get a connected to the setting I’m in. However in the same setting I can tune out the group and stream straight to ReSound. With ReSound, Bose, and Apple I have the best of both worlds. I truly love my SoundWear companions. Thank you Best Buy.

A new twist on the neckband headphones

The Bose SoundWear Companion Speaker is something completely different than your typical neckband headphones as it aims to appeal to those who want to truly be "wireless" without the awkward wired earbuds from the neckbands, yet get quality sound combined with wearable convenience.
Bose is synonymous with high-quality sound and innovation, so the SoundWear Companion Speaker is the newest iteration of this expectation. It is clean, sleek, and minimal right out of the box, and impressive to look at.
I found that the setup was not as sleek as it required you to download a specific Bose app to support the device after a quick pairing with my iPhone. The app, even on wifi took approximately 5 minutes to download and install despite only being 93.2 MB. I felt this was odd.
After pairing and downloading the app, the SoundWear finally began to function. It is a very different experience than one might think. The sound comes from the neckband with nothing physically in your ears. The sound quality was excellent, but unless I was on the lowest volume setting, everyone around me could hear the music and cell phone conversations. Privacy is a concern!
I also found the design to be great for my wife, but not so great for me being a bigger guy. For her, the SoundWear fit perfectly and stayed in place while she used it, but for me, I found the no matter how much I adjusted the band (flexible and shapable) to a tighter fit for my neck, when walking or actively moving about, it always seemed to be falling backwards and I found I was often readjusting it to keep it from falling off my shoulders. I also found the cover of the SoundWear catching/snagging on my 5 o'clock shadow stubble often and I am concerned about how long the cover will hold up to this over time.
PROS
- Innovative Design, First of its kind
- Sound Quality is amazing as we can come to expect from Bose
- Perfect for a home office or micro business setting where computer work consumes a majority of your day
- Bluetooth and handsfree phone and music playback
- Useful while driving for handsfree phone calls
- The construction is solid and feels rugged
- Charging is fast a reliable (micro USB)
- Battery life seems to last well over 12 hours per charge
CONS
- The practicality of this product is limited
- Does not seem useful for any workout or physical activities
- The design may not meet the physical differences of all individuals depending on their size
- The control buttons take some getting used to and are not where I would immediately expect them to have been based on other neckband products.
- Privacy is at a minimum with this device
While I have some concerns over this product, I would still recommend it to many of my work and class colleagues as it would be perfect for their needs working in front of the computer or driving between business stops.

Your Own Sound Environment That Goes With You

SOUND QUALITY
The sound from these companion speakers is excellent. Mind you, this isn't a headphone product, so the sound is not immersive, but that is actually the point of the SoundWear Companion Speaker. While other people around you can hear the sound, that sound comes fully to life once you rest the SoundWear on your shoulders. It is so pleasant. The sound is rich and well balanced. You will thoroughly enjoy it. Trust me.
BUILD QUALITY
The SoundWear Companion Speaker really is a unique device. It is lightweight but will rest confidently on your shoulders. The entire product is wrapped in a high quality sleeve and looks like the usual speaker screening. The bottom part of the sleeve that rests on your shoulders is a comfortable non-slip material. And the entire sleeve can be removed for easy hand cleaning.
Inside that sleeve, the Bose product is constructed of plastic with a protective silicone casing. It looks and feels solid. The neckband portion is quite flexible to make putting it on you and taking it off of you very simple.
Along the SoundWear's edges, there are Power and Bluetooth connection buttons on the left, and the usual playback controls are over on the right. Each are raised and easy to identify by feel through the sleeve. And the micro USB charging port is accessed just under the zipper of the sleeve. It's a little cumbersome to access, but it's not difficult, either.
iOS and ANDROID APP
I have an iPhone, so I used the iOS app. It finds and connects your SoundWear to your phone or tablet, or both (it supports two connections at a time). You can also adjust the bass response and configure how to handle incoming phone calls among other helpful settings. Interestingly, Bose has put haptic hardware to provide a pronounced but gentle vibration for phone calls if you choose to enable that feature.
USE & PERFORMANCE
I can easily recommend the Bose SoundWear. This is one of the most innovative sound reproduction products that I can recall. The form factor works so incredibly well giving you a personalized audio experience that follows you anywhere without isolating you from your surroundings. You can still hear when the delivery person ring the doorbell or when the dog starts scratching to be let back in.
While this isn't specifically designed for exercising, it can work well for low impact workouts. However, running and jumping will have the SoundWear jostling around uncomfortably. You'd also want to be mindful of perspiration damaging the product or discoloring the sleeve.
For working, studying, and doing home chores, the Bose SoundWear will quickly become your favorite device.

A Great Way to Listen to Your Music

I was very surprised to see this new blue tooth speaker from Bose. It is quite different from anything they have offered before. It slips around your neck and is surprisingly very comfortable. It comes with a charging cord and some pretty simple instructions. It is really easy to sync up with the Blue Tooth on your smartphone. Turn it on, slip it around your neck and the music is yours. It is really comfortable and the music just comes up off your shoulders and right into your ears. And the sound?? Well does Bose make anything that doesn't sound terrific?
I have seen items similar to this with ear phones that come out of the end. I am thinking that might be better because others cannot hear your music. But sometimes those ear phones can start to hurt after a while. I am also wondering how this would work on a plane when there is a lot of other noise.
When you first turn the device on it tells you how much battery time is left. I really appreciate that.
This is a wonderful new device. It might not be for everyone. But hey if you love Bose products then you might want to give it a try. I have used mine while sitting at the computer. It helps me to relax while doing reviews and other details of my day.

Incredibly Rich Sound in a Small Package

I have been using this new design of wearable speaker by Bose, a Soundwear Companion Speaker. It took no time at all to have it connected to both my laptop and my mobile phone. First I have to mention two things that blew me away. The sound that comes from this apparatus is incredibly rich and well balanced, with the use of it's patented tuned waveguide that is throughout the unit. It also is very comfortable on my shoulders, with it's low profile and cover it never feels like it is going to fall off. The controls are easy to navigate from your volume buttons to the next/previous buttons on one side and the power a bluetooth buttons on the other. A nice feature of this unit is you can quickly toggle between two bluetooth devices via the bluetooth button. I love this device for when I want my music to travel with me, but need to hear the ambient noise of this world around me. It works great for calls and for Google assistant. The battery life of this unit is pretty incredible at 12 hours and a 15 minute charge gives you up to 3 hours of playback time.
About the only thing I noticed that was negative about my experience, was it makes my neck area a little warm when performing some activities, but that is to be expected.

Really Nice Bluetooth Audio Device

This Bose product is made of quality materials and the whole thing has a premium feel to it.
This is a unique audio device from Bose that sits on the neck area and sounds almost as good as over the ear headphones, but this Bose does not require the annoying constant pressure around the ears that over the ear headphones can cause. Since I am a bit older, I am not able to wear over the ear headphones, because of having slower blood circulation in my body, and over the ear headphones causes a pressure around my ears which results in a slowing of blood going to my head. It is really nice to have a good quality Bluetooth audio device that is in many ways better than over the ear headphones.
I have had several Bluetooth headphones that have buttons which are difficult to press or need to be pressed in a certain way, this is not the case with this Bose SoundWear device. The buttons on this Bose SoundWear are raised up a bit and are easy to locate with just the touch, there are a total of 5 buttons on this Bose SoundWear, a power button, a Bluetooth paring button, a volume up button, a volume down button, and a play/pause button which also answers and ends calls when paired with a Smartphone. Being a bit older and having less flexible joints than I used to, I have found that the buttons on each side of this Bose SoundWear are easier to press with the opposite hand.
This Bose SoundWear has two 1” drivers that are capable of producing really nice highs and also unexpectedly good lows.
Each speaker has a hollow passageway that wraps around the whole length on the inside of the neckband, and the port for each speaker comes out on the opposite side, this is why the area that wraps around the neck is as thick as it is.
This Bose has a microphone on the left side which can be used for calls when connected to a Smartphone.
This Bose SoundWear can be connected to two devices at the same time, and the Bose Connect app allows various added functionality, depending upon which Bose Bluetooth device is connected. In the Bose Connect app this device has the much liked option of adjusting the desired level of Bass, which is really nice, as I prefer to listen to my music with a minimum amount of Bass, especially with lithium battery powered audio devices, since playing audio with less bass uses less battery power. Also playing music with less bass results in the speakers lasting longer, as audio with lots of bass has a tendency to thrash the speakers and they wear out quicker.
This Bose SoundWear came with a black stretch cover that was already on it when I removed it from the box, I wanted to see what it looked like with the cover removed, and I found the cover a bit difficult to remove, and even more difficult to put back on, this is because the cover fits so snugly around the device. Luckily I found a video on YouTube which is on the Bose channel, the video shows the specific way that the cover needs to be placed back onto the SoundWear, which is that the whole neckband area is flexible and needs to be flexed in order to fit the cover on. I never would have expected this device was this flexible unless I had seen the video. I sort of like using the Bose SoundWear better without the cover, as the silicone material on this Bose SoundWear is easy to wipe clean.
This Bose SoundWear weighs 9.26 ounces with the cover off and it weighs 9.99 ounces with the cover on, and it is comfortable to wear despite the weight and it stays on the neck quite well. Because of the weight of this Bose and the fact that it sits around the neck, it is probably best not to wear this Bose SoundWear during activities requiring too much up and down movement such as running.
The micro USB cable provided with this Bose is a bit short and the cable is 13 inches long, a longer cable would have made it easier to charge, but the cable being shorter is easier to carry.
I would suggest this product to anyone who can handle wearing the additional weight around the neck, this Bluetooth audio device might not be as good for someone who has an injured back, as having 9+ ounces weighing down directly on the spine is not as easy for a person with back problems.
This is a very nicely designed and great sounding audio device from Bose and I am rating this Bluetooth audio device at 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Solid Personal Speaker

Personal speakers like the Bose SoundWear Companion have always perplexed me. On the one hand, I like the idea of having my music or phone call follow me around while my hands are free and I can still hear what's going on around me. On the other hand, it seems like the use cases for these are for times when you're on your own, with no other people around. I work from home on occasion and that's really where I found the value for these things.
As with all things Bose puts out, the design is top notch. The collar design fit snugly around my neck and the weight of the device helped keep it in place, even as I moved around bouncing from call to call. A cool feature that Bose has done with the SoundWear is that you can put various cases on it. Think of it as a sleeve that wraps around the unit and zips shut while still providing easy access to the buttons that control it.
I initially had some issues pairing it with my phone, but once I restarted the Bluetooth on my phone, it paired almost instantly. There was a software update for the device as soon as it paired and 40 minutes later, the software was ready to install. The nice thing was, while it was downloading, I was still able to listen to music. The installation of the new firmware was done in a matter of minutes and I was back up and running.
The audio quality is amazing, which is something you'd expect when paying a premium price for a premium product. I could feel the bass in my shoulders. Something that Bose has done with the SoundWear is that the speakers help direct the music or audio towards your ears and not outwards or upwards. This might not seem like much, but it helps keep the full sound field focused on you and not outwards towards anyone else. I noticed this when I was playing music and then had my wife wear it - it sounded much different hearing someone else wear it than when I was wearing it myself.
Again, the biggest selling point for me on personal speakers is that I can listen to music or take a call while not putting something in my ear that makes me oblivious to what's going on around me. I even paired this with my PS4 so I could play games after the kids went to bed, but could still hear when one of them got out of bed.
That being said, I wouldn't recommend these to listen to music if you work in a space that's shared with a lot of other people as music can be an extremely personal taste.
Bottom line, if you like Bose products and appreciate the sound they produce and want something that's doesn't get in your way while you bounce from task to task or call to call, then the SoundWear might be just the thing you're looking for.

Wear 'em like a BOSE

The setup for the Boss Soundwear Companion Speaker was simple. Out of the box, it already has sufficient charge to begin using it. Though it works with bluetooth, a companion app called Boss Connect is recommended to download to adjust settings in the headset. After downloading the app, I was able to access several customizable features of the speakers themselves.
The key feature of this speaker is that it rests on your neck and has a full bass sound. The apparatus does look like it has a quality build and a zipper cover protects the entire speaker. You can connect multiple devices to them and switch at will with a button press. As a new device connects, the speaker will say out loud the name of the new device, such as how I named my phone or my home computer.
The performance of this speaker is amazing. It has full bass sounds and you can hear some of the smaller details of movies and TV shows. I wore them while on my after-work routine. Though they never fell down, the weight of them was constantly noticeable, but not uncomfortable. I tested these speakers with streaming services like HBO NOW and Netflix. The audio was synced properly while watching my movies. I tested it with the latin music genres (bachata and salsa) and the beats were amazing. I also listened to some rock (Spanish and English) and I must say that I am starting to enjoy my music again without having my ears get warm because they are covered. These were also tested with a gaming computer. This seems to be where I will end up using them the most, as when the house is quiet, I can game with surround-like sound without making my ears warm by covering them up but having the audio source close to me so it doesn’t wake anybody who may be sleeping.
The Boss Soundwear Companion Speaker meets my expectations. I have to be clear that these (unlike another similar product I own) do not have retractable earbuds. They are purely a speaker that goes on your neck. The only inconvenience I find is the charging port, which is cumbersome to find the right angle to charge it with. That’s only an inconvenience if you decide to leave the cover on. The cover is removable and other color varieties are sold.
The price for the speaker in terms of value is adequate for the quality of sound that you will get.
I highly recommend this product for people who are audiophiles but need the source closer to their ears. This is perfect for college students in dorm rooms who don’t have the space for a soundbar but want that audio quality. Also, it’s great for family homes where someone wants to listen to a loud sound without covering up their ears but not wake anyone up.

Soundwear! What an awesome way to explain what they are. They are light weight and fit nicely around your neck and lay nicely on your shoulders. I feel they would be a little more secure if they had an adjustable strap to connect the ends just for security. If riding on a bike they feel
Like they might fall off. They are bendable and feel nice but Instill worry about dropping them or turning fast and have them fall off. I like the clear sound and also the ability to hear other noises around me like a train or other things that I need to pay attention too. I can enjoy the great music but still hear if my kids need something. It comes with a cover so it can be washed and always looks nice . There are several color options. It is easy to download the Bose connect app and use the functions through the app. There are volumne controls and Bluetooth connection. There is Phone answering and it will pause when your phone rings and you can talk through the sound wear . I like this sound collar and I am happy with this purchase.

I got the sportswear companion Bluetooth speaker about a month ago! The package came in nice and fast. He app and instructions were very easy to use and set up device. The product is well made and comfortable to wear all day long! The sound is great and not overpowering to the people around u. The receiving your calls through it makes it wonderful. Comfortable to run, work out or just doing house chores. My boys love they can wear t while biking and still hear the traffic. Ear buds block to much of the noise and are unsafe! I'll be honest, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect when I got this. I didn't know how I would like fact that people can hear my conversations if I'm out.
BUT..... It is fabulous. The speaker is loud enough for me to hear, but not for others, unless they are next to me. I listen to books all the time, and it is great to be able to listen with such clarity.
The sound quality is wonderful - as you would expect from Bose.
Phone calls are also something that I am impressed with. People can hear me very well, and I don't need to adjust the collar.
The on/off and volume buttons are easily accessible and it's super easy to charge.
The only concern I have is that after a time, it does seem a bit heavy. Of course, this comes after wearing for about 3-4 hours.
All in all, it is a wonderful hands-free product, that I would strongly suggest.

I am not completely sold on the idea of wearing a speaker around your neck, but this one is actually pretty cool. Being a Bose product, you should expect great sound and this one delivers pretty well on that. Its not terribly loud, but that might be by design since you do wear it pretty close to your ears. I was able to pair it up with my LG UH8500 TV via BT and it worked out really well. I can hear my football games clear as day and my toddler is able to run around the living room screaming and I don't have to keep adjusting the volume on my stereo to hear the game. The sound from the SoundWear just seems to take over somehow. It comes with a case that encompasses the unit and you have to unzip it to charge it up. It appears you can remove the case surrounding it, but I haven't tried to remove it. I believe that might help with the 'sweat protection' aspect of it. Battery life has been pretty good so far. I was able to use it for a good 4 to 6 solid hours between the football games on Sunday and doing some homework listening to online lectures from my laptop, the battery is still at 70 percent. You can probably to a full day easily with this. I did try out a few phone calls with it and the other party was able to hear me clearly and loud they said. BT range is about average i would say. When I strayed more than 20 feet away from my phone or device, I would notice it would cut out. The Bose Connect + app is a very nice feature. I had to update the SoundWear speaker right out of the box using the app, but it didn't take too long and before too long I was able to adjust the Bass, set an auto-off timer, rename my SoundWear, take a product tour, and other things that were useful. I am really looking forward to taking this out on a hike or a bike ride to see how well I can hear outdoors.
