I'm not sure if your question was regarding this scanner, sense you mentioned "printer" in your question. But just to be clear this item is a scanner only no printing capability. That being said it does have the ability to scan to a USB dive without needing a connection to computer directly. Hope this answers helps with your possible purchase.

In fact, if you choose you do not even need a companion software on your PC, if you want your files to go to various clouds or email. All can be configured from the scanner itself and it is quite easy to do. That is why I like it in fact.

On a few occasions while scanning a large number of papers, the connection between my laptop and the scanner dropped, For those of us who are less computer savvy and tend to have regular computer challenges, the troubleshooting was painless in comparison to other products. I had the thing up and running quickly which proves to me the application support was well designed for this feature which makes the scanner even greater.
