“Does this require you to use one of their services or can you scan straight to a PC?”

• I use it with a MacBook. Had to download an app, but it scanned straight to computer otherwise. Did not need to use their service (unless you count a very basic app a service). I suspect that's true of a PC too.

• No extra services needed just plugged it in and hooked up to laptop, scan and go.

• The ADS1700W can scan to PC using Brother iPrint&Scan.
