“If you purchase this camera without a lens (body only) does it come with some sort of cover for where the lens would go? Or am I risking receiving a damaged product because the body will be open when I purchase it?”

Yes, it comes with a cover over the lens.

It comes with a screw on cover. I had the Rebel T4i and used the lens from that camera and put the cover lens that came on the T8i on my old camera. I love this T8i! The pictures are so crisp. I didn't think I would notice, but there truly is a difference.
