Yes, it has a great focus but what you're talking about is aperature size: The size of the aperature compared to the distance from the focal point and the background creates that blur effect. Yes, if you know what you're doing, this camera will allow you to do that. There is also a setting to do that whether you know what you're doing or not which is a nice feature.
