• Yes for setup to the Internet from a PC but then you can disconnect the Ethernet cable and the PC becomes connected via wi-fi within 100 feet.

• The modem has wireless built in. It's an 802.11N. You can hook up an external router that is faster but you need to log into the router and disable the wireless. Any way you don't have to use an Ethernet connection but you need to have a phone cable (DSLor ADSL/VDSL) plugged in. It is a modem not just a router. Hope this helps.

• You need an Ethernet Cable to run the setup program. After setup you do not need to use the Ethernet cable to for wireless connections.

• In my case I had to use an ethernet cable connected to a TP Link router inasmuch as the wireless "radio" didn't work for me.
