A:AnswerYes. I just came back from a cruise in April. I used them on the ship with two teenagers and they worked perfectly. I was able to talk to them from whatever deck they were on. I felt comfortable knowing that I could contact them and know their exact location. I did occasionally pick up other people talking sometimes. But all I did was change channels. There were many to choose from. Hope this helps.
A:AnswerOops, meant to answer the other two questions too.
For headset, I have never heard of a two way radio taking a headset that couldn't use a mic headset. However, even if these radios can only use the non-mic headset, the built in mic should still work.
You can use non rechargeable batteries but of course if you do you shouldn't try charging them if you do. Bad things happen then. Leakage, fire, 'splosion.
Also, since these take AAA, expect to replace them frequently if you don't use rechargeables.
A:AnswerTo change the channel of the radio, press and hold the Mode/Power button to turn on your radio. Press the Channel Up or Channel Down button to select a channel. Both radios must be tuned to the same channel/privacy code to communicate.
A:AnswerThe 16 mile range is calculated by an unobstructed line of sight distance. I would guess if you can't reach each other at 2.5 miles that there is a high density of buildings affecting your range. You would need radios that have more power to do what you want. My kids use the and they are only good for a few hundred yards in a residential area.
A:Answerwhile these radios are good for up to 16 miles, concrete and steel do offer obstructions. I have had great success talking blocks away and being in a basement, saved time and $. my advice would be by them and find out. good luck. saxas
