Yes if you set it on park mode and yes it will drain the battery if it's (hardwired to a power source to the car) and if you have a lot of activity around your vehicle while parked at home like animals jumping on the car other than that great peace of mind for the road & store's and at home recording for any questanable activity around and on your vehicles especially the roads and the parking lot dings and scratches
