The final question in the email specifically asks for a suggestion. So without being able to probe and troubleshoot the issue, my first thought is, the RAM installed is PC2, and the RAM purchased that is not compatible is PC3. Fact is, they are not physically interchangeable. Also, you mention one is 3.1 the other is version 8.1. What exactly are those versions referring to? Because the term "version" is related to software, not hardware, is irrelevant to any compatibility issues caused between the two different RAM chips. Unless the motherboard only recognizes a specific type, or brand of RAM. Otherwise it's irrelevant. My question for you is, when you said, "it does not seem to be matching." What are you referring to specifically? Color? Size? Brand? Type of RAM.
