• yes, go to Utilities, Disk Utilities. I have several apfs partitions with no problem.

• Yes. I would say buy a cheap harddrive for back up though. This is meant to be used.

• Yes I believe so when I connected it the first time it asked me if I wanted to use it for time machine. I don't use time machine so I declined I just back up my files differently.
