Not normal. I have the same issue. The connection is not very snug and causes the unit to turn off mid-smoking. Therefore it has to be monitored continuously. My next smoker will be a different brand for sure.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Mine has a poor connection & does the same thing. It never seems to get above 250 because the connection is loose where the temp dial connects to the smoker. I have to stick a shim in there if I want a higher temp, though this might not be exactly safe.
