“So when I received this computer it came with a MSI z170 box so is the motherboard in this computer a MSI Z170?”

• The motherboard is already installed inside the PC tower. That box will however contain the power cord, motherboard manual, the Windows 10 installation DVD, MSI drivers and utilities disc and any miscellaneous parts if any for the PC.
