“Are the link and power lights supposed to be on all the time?”

• They are "supposed to be on" only if you have not disabled the camera's LED. There is a device setting, "Enable Camera LED", that is turned on by default. After you get your camera all setup, you can turn off that setting. Then the link and power light LEDs will be off.
