There is no charge for the app or the website account, both provide ways to set up continuous or motion activated recordings. I went with another option and have the Mydlink NVR connected to external, My Passport hard drives. This allows me to record 4 cameras 24/7 for 18 days before it starts to record over the oldest video. I can view the NVR video over my phone when connected to a good Wi-Fi signal or from the MyDlink account website.
