There are two ways to install this: switched and unswitched. Switched means it will only power up when the ignition is on - and of course shut down when you turn the ignition off. There is an unswitched option that keeps the power on at all times, but does drain the battery, but at a very tiny rate. I have seen install kits that will also turn off the power to the cam if the battery’s voltage level drops below a certain point, like 11.7 volts I think.
