@Gary, I spoke with Chet at Def Tech customer service....real nice guy. Told me that all of the speakers in the BP9000 line will have this popping noise when the subs first turn on. Essentially he said it was "normal" and would not affect the longevity of the speakers. He also said that replacing the amps would not help. If you're within your return period, and don't like the popping noise at startup, return them. I've tried everything to help with the noise but nope, still present. I love how the speakers sound and will be keeping them though. -Mo
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes they do it when they turn off
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Thanks everyone.... I heard back from Def Tech and they are telling me that the BP models all make the popping noise. And that the first rep was wrong in telling me that the internal amps were bad. Honestly, I am just going to enjoy them. I love how they sound! I have them connected to Panamax surge protectors , but those protectors have multiple components hooked up to them. Again, no biggie. I will live with the pops. The second def tech rep told me that the speakers won;t get damaged. Only time will tell. Thanks!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.mine don’t do this. if they are both doing it then i would try connecting them to a different receiver first and see if it still happens. If it still happens then most likely the internal amps are bad like they say. if it doesn’t happen then it has to be the receiver you are using
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I am having the same popping sound on both of my BP9040 speakers. Has Def Tek sent you new amps????
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have had the 9080's, 2 Towers and the Center Channel varied with a Marantz SR6013 and both the Towers and the Center Channel make this popping noise when the Sub's inside turn on, when observed closely it happens almost at the same time as when the "D" light in the front turns on which is an indication of the internal sub kicking in The Popping sound can be quite scary if your volume is higher at start, spoke to DefTech a few times and got varying answers and one of them advised getting new internal amps which they did send to me for all 3 speakers and I'm planning on switching them out shortly Basically it seems like the very nature of the towers, is that when Sub turns on they make the popping noise and I attribute this to bad design, this sound is really scary when you start your home theater at a higher volume, the higher the volume the louder the pop so I have slightly overcome this by using a song that triggers the subs in all at a lower volume, the popping still happens although in reduced frequency and reduced sound Hope this helps !
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Saw a review where this was a problem with units made prior to COVID. They have since discovered bad amps cause it and will send you a replacement.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.YES! I bought the 9080s replaced 3 times, geek squad said it was cause i didnt have a good surge protector. Bought a $600 SP and still popped. Next geek squad expert said it was receiver. Replaced receiver. Still pops. Replaced with the 9060s still pop. So replacing with non powered Klipsch.
