QuestionI bought these a couple months ago.... Every time the subs turn on, there's a quick popping noise. It happens on both speakers.... I have contacted Def Tech and they are telling me the internal amps are bad. Anyone else have this issue? Thanks! -M

- Answer @Gary, I spoke with Chet at Def Tech customer service....real nice guy. Told me that all of the speakers in the BP9000 line will have this popping noise when the subs first turn on. Essentially he said it was "normal" and would not affect the longevity of the speakers. He also said that replacing the amps would not help. If you're within your return period, and don't like the popping noise at startup, return them. I've tried everything to help with the noise but nope, still present. I love how the speakers sound and will be keeping them though. -Mo

QuestionThe (D) that use to light up on the bottom of my definitive technology speaker will not come on like the other speaker does. What's the problem?

- Answer Either the amplifier in the subwoofer is gone or make sure you check the back of the speaker. There is a button to turn on and off the lit up logo.

QuestionTen minutes after I turn off my receiver, there is a pop (but it's really more of a thump) that is very very loud. I've had the speakers for a few months, and I think it might be discharge from receiver? Other than that they are great.

- Answer i believe its the built in amplifier shutting down. the d light on the bottom of the speaker on the front will be lit and watch it. if you hear the thump and the light goes out then that's what most likely it is.

QuestionWe have the Onkyo TX-NR696 AV receiver, is it enough to power the BP9040?

- Answer I looked up your specs. You have 100 watts per channel. My Yamaha has 90 and it brings the house down. You will have no problem. I also have the center channel speaker and added a subwoofer.

QuestionI have two super cubes by Def Tech and the C-9060 center channel. Do I need front speakers with subs in them? I feel like I can save money and just get front speakers with pure mid range and tweeters vs spending this much when I have 3 subs already

- Answer Great system that you are building. Correct, floor standing speakers with built in subs will not be necessary if you already own 2 Super Cubes. Consider the DT D15 Passive floor standing speakers. Not exactly saving money, but the D15 speakers are absolutely amazing. Also consider the D11 Bookshelf speakers. This option will save money and sound terrific. Speaker stands sold separately.

QuestionI would like to pair them with a sub to complete my system and TBH, I wouldn’t get its own supercube - torn between svs SB2000 pro or SB3000 - what should be my best course of action?

- Answer Have you turned up built in subwoofers, there’s a good chance you don’t need a Svs. Unless yo want major base, on that note SB3000.

QuestionHi does the internal amp only run the subwoofers or all the drivers? Also, if I want to use different speakers and just the subs of the Def Techs, can I just plug in a sub cable and only drive the subs from a pre-out from the amp?

- Answer I believe the internal amp only powers the subwoofer. I have the 9060 center channel and when I listen to two channel music, only the subwoofer is making any sound because I have the subwoofer cable plugged into the LFE port on the back of the speakers so only the sub gets the low frequencies. So in answer to your question, I believe the towers would work the same way as long as you have regular speaker wire, hooked up to the terminals in the back of the towers and also have the subwoofer cable going to the LFE port on the back of the towers, I think it would only send the subwoofer signal

QuestionCan I use these speakers on a lg home theater receiver that runs 3 ohm speakers? I figure that since these speakers are 8 ohms, it will work well with lg home theater in a box receiver. Please let me know if this would work.

- Answer Sure absolutely. I would just caution you as to looking at the wattage output. Most receivers say 90 watts X 7 channels. But in actuality, you are not getting 90 watts in every channel it would be more like 40 or 50 watts But yes, the speakers are very easy to power so they would probably sound good with any receiver, but would probably sound much better with a higher end receiver, or at least an amplifier so make sure the receiver has pre-outs

QuestionHow do ýou fix the logo one the front

- Answer If the speaker is connected to power, all your speaker wire connections are properly connected, there is sound coming from the tweeters and mid rage speakers at the top and you can’t feel the bass from the subwoofer you may have blown your amp. The logo light won’t turn on.

QuestionI have an entertainment center with 8" wide speaker cabinets. I am looking to replace a set of Infinity powered tower speakers. Is the silver base removable? If so, does the set come with peg feet that will work for wood base? Thanks in advance!

- Answer Yes, and yes, the bases come off and the feet come off of the base as well. The speakers come with spikes for carpet and flat bottom pegs with belt for hardwood. They screw into the base. The base screws into the bottom of the speaker. So you could absolutely not put the base on.

QuestionMy definitive technology BP40 series towers and my BP80 series center Chanel make random popping noises while watching tv on all video sources; is this the speaker or my Onkyo amp that’s causing the problem... it’s very intermittent

- Answer Mine does the same thing and I cannot find out what the issue is. I thought maybe a loose connection, or wire touching the back of the receiver. I disconnected and reconnected everything and issue is still there.

QuestionI see you state that they need to be plugged into wall outlet. Does this mean they can’t be plug into surge protector

- Answer Hey. So yes. They do need to be plugged into a wall surge protector like panomax wall plug. But you don't need to plug into a RCA for the bass. The speakers are designed to be best sounding with just the speaker wire plugged into it. Just ask Definitely technology. That's what they recommend. But I'd still get a subwoofer too!

Questiondo I need and amplifier to power these or is it built in? What else do I need to run these?

- Answer Yes, you need a receiver or amplifier to power these. These speakers do have to be plugged in to a wall outlet if you would like to use the gain control on the back of the speakers. That will give you more control of the bass output according to your likes. These speakers are phenomenal! If you don’t have a subwoofer, these just may be all that you’ll need... Connect the output from the receiver or amplifier to the bottom two terminals on the back of the speakers. The top two terminals are designed for connecting the Atmos speakers (A90s’) if you have them.

QuestionWhat is the suggested power wattage on these speakers? I have a Carver A-760x Magnafied powers amp that I like to run at 400W

- Answer If you research it, the people who know what they’re talking about actually say you should double whatever the recommended wattage is. So if the speakers handle 20 to 200 watts then 400 watch would be fine. It will not blow them believe me.
