Yes, this laptop would be fine to use on your lap. It does get a tad warm but nothing major to where it would burn you.

But, I have tested HP and Lenovo $1,000 laptops and they all heat up under light use and made my lap sweat. This Dell G6 is very well built with extra cooling. It renders videos in Adobe Premiere without even getting warm. I am willing to sacrifice touch screen and ultra laptops for this cool machine! I don't play video games either so I appreciate your struggle. Buy at Best Buy and trade it in if you don't like. Just do it in less than 15 days.
