Backlit keyboards tend to come with laptops of a certain price range or with those geared to the business community.. Thus, they have come to be synonymous luxury and/or seriousness of purpose. Like a leather interior or a supercharger in a car. Therefore, the backlit keyboard is a frequently cited selling factor. They make no substantial difference to the use of a laptop in normal use, unless your normal use tends to be giving presentations in darkened rooms.
