Yes, you can first, burn a CD or movie to the laptop ( CD "burn" software included with laptop system) if you have enough hd space on the laptop to initially store the "burned" files of the CD and movie data , and then should be able to transfer to an external HD to access that data, mp3, MP4, files,etc., on other systems.
