unit uses a 2.5" HDD/SSD, not an M.2. You can clone your system onto another HDD/SDD by putting a 2.5" HDD in an external USB enclosure and using a clone program (I use Macrium Reflect) to clone the system drive, then shut it down, open it up and replace the HDD. Takes about 5 minutes to swap the drive out once it's cloned.

You could straight replace the HDD with an SSD after cloning windows onto the SSD. 256GB SSD is about $65 and the kit for cloning via USB3 is about $20, software is free. This would be a massive performance boost day to day use. Still wouldn't help with playing a game or graphics rendering. Its also $85 on top of a $900 (at time of posting) laptop...or you could just buy one for much cheaper with SSD already installed.
