Can I upgrade the ram to 32 gb with 2x16 or 1x32 null

If you go to Dell site and look and answers there, people are putting 64GB in these with no issue. Dell's answer does not make sense as they say you can do 16GB in one slot (there are two). If the slot can do 16GB, then it should be able to do 32GB. I think Dell just never tested anything above 16GB, so they can't advise anything above that.

It comes with two 4gb slows. You can either buy a 1 8gb card and get 12GB/ Or you can buy a kit of 16GB (2 slows 8gb each), apparently, you will max out at 16.

The maximum RAM supported by this system is only 16 GB.
