This monitor comes with HDMI 1.4 ports. Should your laptop has a compatible port, the monitor could be connected directly. Else, a converter according to your laptop's video output ports could be used.

Please try again later.Well this seems to be more of a question about your computer rather than the Dell monitor but if your laptop has the right ports on it then there is no issue. If the computer doesn't recognize automatically that you have an additional monitor plugged in to it then you may have to go to your display settings to "discover" it. I currently run two 24" ViewSonic monitors on my HP laptop for work and it works great. But again, question is more about your computer than the Dell monitor or I greatly misread/misunderstood your question.
