The mic is for Audysey room calibration that is on board the receiver. Place the mic on a tripod or the paper tripod that it came with and place it on the couch at the main listening area (where you always sit). Then plug in the mic to the front of the receiver and follow the directions. You basically will move the mic to 8 different areas in the main listening area and around the area to set speaker distance, levels, crossovers and add filters to make audio corrections in your room as all rooms are different.
