I bought this Denon receiver to replace a Samsung receiver that was part of a Home Theater in a Box system I bought from Best Buy back in late 2010. After almost 5 years of flawless service, the Samsung started flashing "PROTECTION" after about 20 minutes of use, so it was time to replace it and this a MAJOR upgrade. It's more powerful, has more codecs (including HD), has multiple configurations (5.1, 6.1, 7.1, 7.2, 5.1.2 for Front Height channels) and is more advanced in every way. Being able to connect it to the internet via home wi-fi is probably the coolest feature; now I can stream thousands of radio stations from all over the world, plus Pandora, Spotify, etc.! There is also a pretty decent app available for free that controls the receiver and is great for browsing all those internet stations. There are some features that I haven't used, like Bluetooth streaming from devices and the 4K stuff, but it's there when I eventually upgrade my TV. The only thing I might complain about would be a lack of buttons on the remote, but that's really just a personal preference, and I really need to play with the whole system more. Overall, I love my receiver and would recommend it to pretty much everyone who games, movie and TV fans, and anyone who wants to upgrade from something old and/or broken!

Sounds great!! This receiver has it all. Hard to believe it is considered entry level, includes wifi and bluetooth. Basic setup was a breeze. Seems to improve the TV video although it does not include upscaling. Another plus is Denon's customer service is first class. My only complaint is that the pass-through can be finicky, probably user error.

When purchasing a receiver my biggest concern was making sure it was going to last. With all the technology that this receiver offers me I know I'm able to keep this for 10 to 12 years. It offers me multiple zones and an easy set up. For someone who loves bass like myself it allows me to have to sub woofer which is one of my favorite features. You also can't go wrong with the built-in Wi-Fi and Pandora .

This receiver is simple to hookup and allows for six HDMI devices. The sound is fantastic used with Bose surround speakers. It comes with a microphone and stand to calibrate the surround sound speakers based on there location in the room. It was simple to adjust in order to get the levels synchronized. Great system.

I bought this system primarily for its multi-room and wifi remote app features (deck stereo, family room 5.1). It delivered big time! I can turn on ONLY the deck sound, whether the inside sound is on or not... using my iPad or iPhone ... Play internet radio, Bluetooth audio (has to be close), or AirPlay content. Note that surround sources won't play on the 2nd zone. Ok, I can't listen to NFL games in the deck while others are watching inside in surround sound - I can live with this considering everything else.
The sound is unreal at low or high volume!!!! This system can make average speakers sound like they cost 10x as much! The Audessey DSP calibration trains the AV system to understand your main room, your speakers, and how they are arranged relative to your listening positions. The result is extraordinary sound at low, medium, and even very high volumes. I could not detect any distortion from this system with my critical judgement and hearing. My only tweak on this system is that when playing music using AirPlay on 2nd zone, the remote app will adjust zone 2 volume, but if I adjust the AirPlay source (e.g phone) volume, it changes zone1 volume, even if it has a separate sound source (this annoys people inside). I assume this could be a future firmware fix & update.
Denon hit a home run with this system. Very high end for $500-600.

It has all the latest specs including hdmi 2.0a and seems to work well. On screen controls could be a little better. Puts out decent power per channel but I'd go for a little more power if I did it again.

The system was easy to set up and it works fine. It does take about 5 seconds to come on.
WARNING: I had mine connected to the internet with ethernet cable. After a few days it wanted to update its firmware the next time it powered down and I said OK. A while later I noticed my internet connection was down. I thought "great, during the firmware update" 4 days later I still had no internet and TWC was no help. I finally disconnected the ethernet from the receiver and my internet was back.

Recently my "highly rated" pioneer receiver failed after only 5 years. The AB speaker switch function button no longer worked. I use it to control my outside Bose patio speakers. I was very disappointed that it only lasted 5 years. I began looking for a new receiver that would take its place. After having the problem with Pioneer I looked to other brands. I wanted a user friendly receiver without all the intimidating control buttons on the unit. I like technology but it also has to be easy to operate. Denon seemed to be perfect for the job after looking at other brands. I started out with the base Elite model but found it could not control the speakers the way I wanted. Unfortunately I had to go up 2 levels to just to get the speaker control I needed. That is the only negative of my whole review. It cost more than my Pioneer but it has made up for the cost with user friendlyness!! I love the remote app for my iPhone. The setup was very easy to understand and quite simple. Overall (except for the higher cost) I love this receiver.

The unit sounds great. I really enjoy being able to control the unit with my iPad as well as the provided remote control. Love the internet radio option which allows you to listen to stations from around the world. Pick your favorite genre and select a country of your choice.. I enjoy hearing the various accents of people from distant locations.

Easy to use. On screen setup was great. WIFI pickup is okay. Not weak but not super strong. I love all the options. Sound quality increase from my old receiver which was a great Dennon receiver was noticable. Also has a zone 2 Audio out which many of the other receivers at a higher price did not have.

Excellent, full featured receiver for home theater. I like that it comes with both wi-fi and Bluetooth built-in. Great quality for the price. My only complaint is that fm tuner automatically populates pre-sets, and you have to delete the stations you don't want included, but that's more of a minor annoyance than a problem. Otherwise, very pleased with the sound and features.

The Denon - AVR-X1200W 1225W 7.2-Ch. 4K Ultra HD and 3D Pass-Through A/V Home Theater Receiver is the best purchase I've made to date.. It sounds great with only 6 of The 7 speakers allowed hooked up and 1 of the two subwoofers allowed. My theater room is a fairly nice since and this Demon does the trick.. The set up was very easy.. No need to go to the movies anymore!!

After selecting our Sony 4K UltraHD smart TV, we headed over to Best Buy's Magnolia Theater section to browse the AVR's. We have been considering a number of manufacturers such as; Pioneer, Yamaha, Marantz and Onkyo, but inadvertently excluded Denon for some reason.
Nonetheless after browsing the features of the above AVR's, we came across the Denon display. With the AVR1200W ability to pass-through 4K, stream internet (wired or wireless) radio, plus allow Zone 2 playback all at a fantastic (on-sale) price, we were immediately sold!
I'm happy to report setup was a breeze with its built-in Audessy sound management/microphone features we couldn't be happier. Also, the software upgrade was quite painless resulting in an ear to ear smile in no time flat.
If you are considering an upgrade or in the market for a value rich AVR, do yourself a favor and consider the Denon AVR1200W. You'll be glad you did.

i have had two earlier Denons, which I replaced to get one that supports 4k signals. I like the richness of the sound this unit produces, which has been typical of all its predecessors -- that's why I keep buying Denon even as I change brands of tvs, etc. It is easy to operate and setup.

I upgraded but also downgraded to this receiver. I had an older higher end Denon AVR-887 that I purchased about 9 years ago. The thing is still in great working condition, but I needed to have 4K passthrough with HDCP 2.2 support. The receiver was really easy to setup, I just unplugged all of my stuff from my existing receiver and plugged them in the correct locations and ran the automatic setup. One thing I noticed is that the bass coming from my subwoofer is a bit more boomy, but I should be able to resolve that by tweaking some settings.

As an A/V integrator this is a great value receiver. I bought it just to demo it and then install in a client's home. I will buy another one because I am keeping it. Really easy to install and the fact it's IP controllable makes it a breeze to integrate.

This reciever is amazing. As soon I hooked this thing up, I could see and hear the difference in quality from my Pioneer. Setup was easy. I'm finally getting the best out of my surround sound. This receiver is worth the coin.

I purchased this in January 2016, and it has been working well. I paired it with Martin Logan Motion series speakers, and I become fully immersed in the sounds. I also paired this with a Logitech universal remote, and it works flawlessly.
I highly recommend this unit for people that are looking in the $600 range. It has a lot of capabilities that I didn't have with my A/V receiver from four years ago.
I don't think I'll need any more watts, as this handles my speakers perfectly.
I chose this over other receivers in the same price-range and a little lower. I am happy with my purchase.
