Externally, they look quite similar. But have you ever heard that looks are often deceiving? Denon has a good reputation in the audio industry. The internals are way better than the cheap Polk. Best Buy even stopped me from buying the Polk because they had too many experiences where people would return them.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Honestly, when I saw pictures of the Denon DHT-S316 I thought something was very suspicious. It looks EXACTLY like the Signa S2. If you look at the specs, the sizes and weights of the two bars and subs are EXACTLY THE SAME as well as the power output of 40W for the bar and sub each. So I googled whether DENON was owned by Polk. "Sound United, the company behind Polk and Definitive Technology, has announced it has acquired D+M Group, which is home to audio brands Denon and Marantz," according to CNET on March 1, 2017. My guess is that they are pretty much exactly the same, but slap a higher end brand name like Denon on it, throw it under "Magnolia" and jack the price up $150, your ears will never know...I've heard the S2 but not the Denon, but I'd bet dollars to donuts they sound EXACTLY the same.

Old school brand names like Polk, Denon, Marantz, Onkyo have all merged or have been bought by the private equity firm DEI Holdings. Even as far back as the 1990's, Denon-branded DVD players were technically the same components as Panasonic DVD players.
