Yes, the entire left side is left open between the top and bottom corners to accommodate an Apple smart cover (or cheaper knockoff). However, since I do not use one of those, and instead rely on a ballistic glass screen protector, I find the omission of that entire side of the case very inconvenient.

No, it's just fits the actual iPad snug

I do not believe you will be able to use these two cases simultaneously.
