• You don't have to. Any usb cable with a micro usb will work. I plugged the wide usb side into my electrical outlet adapter to charge it since they don't supply a wall charger and had no problems. I think it may be small for the sake of convenience. At this point though if you don't already have an available usb/micro cable. You may want to just buy a new one.

• I don't know if dynex sells the cord separately but you can use a regular usb plug like what charges a Samsung or other phones besides Apple

• Usually USB charging cables are universal and easily replaceable. Checking with the manufacturer is possible as well.
