It doesn't charge when the ignition is turned off and the key is removed for me but I don't think it's because the charger stops charging but my car is built that way. It's likely your car model allows continuous charging even after your ignition is turned off and the key is removed - my husband's car is like that. This could cause your battery to drain over time, so you might want to check with your car manufacturer or dealer about leaving the charger plugged in. Btw, this charger doesn't have an indicator light to tell whether it's charging, so the only way to tell is to plug in a device.
