Hi Marge, this is Kelly with Dyson. The Dyson Small Ball Multi Floor, like with all of our Dyson Ball models, has a self-adjusting cleaner head. This reduces air leaks and retains more suction power at the cleaner head, ensuring that the head maintains optimal contact with flooring, to provide the best performance across both hard floors and carpet. As a result, while we don't expect problems to occur and experiences can vary from home to home, some high pile carpets may fill in the cleaner head resulting in an airtight seal. The Small Ball model does feature a suction control slider at the cleaner head which will result in more possible airflow when cleaning your carpets. Ultimately, you may wish to check with your carpeting manufacturer to see what their recommendations may be for your new rug. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
