I have a full size dyson vac but wanted to stop having to drag it up and down the stairs. This vac is lightweight which is good on one hand, but also doesn't have the weight to hold its self up while you propel it. What that means is you will be pushing this vac harder to move it over a carpet. It does have smaller head which gets into tighter spots than a fullsize vac. It works great and easy to push/maneuver on hardwood floors; works really great across my oriental carpets; works ok on my regular carpets. Other pluses: Long cord Other minuses: the beater brush seems to be made of very soft eyelash like bristles. THis works good on hardwood but I wonder how much "beating" its doing on the carpets. I suppose it won't be wearing out the carpets. You have to flip the wand around to use the suction tube for dusting the ceiling---a bit awkward. So if you have a big house---this is going to be too light duty for you---get a full size Dyson vac. For an apartment with hardwood floors with a few big room rugs this would be ideal.

Too much of a hassle for a weak lady

This is my first high end vacuum cleaner that costs over $150 and I wasn't entirely impressed with the product. First, the 12 pound weight is super heavy for me to maneuver around since I'm technically pushing and pulling the entire vacuum around instead of just the wand while the machine being a separate compartment like the other cheap non standing vacuum cleaners are like. Secondly, it does not have the typical 'press the button and the wires will wind back in on its own' feature that other vacuum cleaners have; half of the vacuum time involves me holding excess wires to twisting it back manually on the cleaner itself. Thirdly, I have two very fluffy cats that seems to shed the furs like leaves drop in autumn, and instead of the vacuum cleaner sucking them in from the carpet, most of the time it 'blows' it away and so there I was lugging the heavy vacuum trying to chase the furs down. I gave it 2 stars because I like the whole 'bagless' system and the suction is not too bad (although I seem to recall the cheaper ones working just as good). This vacuum is nice for someone who is strong or perhaps someone who is too lazy to head to the gym for a good workout, well this one would indirectly gets you to work on the biceps a little bit.

Hi, this is Aimee with Dyson. I am happy to hear you are enjoying the bagless feature of our Small Ball Multi-Floor upright vacuum, as well as, the suction power of this machine. The Small Ball Multi-Floor is our latest technology in compact upright vacuums. The compact design does make this vacuum lightweight, when compared to the full size machines. As with our upright vacuums, the handle of the unit would be attached and the entire vacuum would be pushed when vacuuming from the base of the machine. Also, the cord is not retractable on the upright machines as this would cause additional weight, and as you mentioned added weight is not something customer's prefer in an upright vacuum. Based on the information provided it does seem as if a canister vacuum would be better suitable for your cleaning needs. In regards to the pet hair not being picked up, if the filters have been cleaned and no blockages have been located in the machine, this would indicate the machine isn't operating as intended. The Small Ball Multi-Floor upright includes a 5 year Dyson warranty, when purchased new and from an authorized Dyson retailer. We would like to learn more of your experience, and ensure you have the vacuum that is most suitable for your cleaning needs, and the Small Ball Multi-Floor is operating as intended. Please email us at AskDysonUS@Dyson.com, including your contact information, and we will be happy to assist. We look forward to hearing from you. Best Wishes, Aimee Dyson-EN_US

    Hard to push on carpeting

I had the Dyson Ball Multifloor (#2498029) that I purchased w/ the 4 year warranty, so had to return it due to the vacuum squeaking and the brush bar had stopped rotating. This vacuum would be great if it didn't prove difficult to push along carpeting. I have plush carpeting and wood floors. VERY difficult to push on carpeting on Max setting, slightly less difficult if you switch the toggle. Also, the wand tool took some work (i.e., an hour of searching the internet to finally learn). You take the wand tool (the part that pulls out or extends) out of the hose, flip it upside down, click the handle part into the hose. Taking apart, and/or accessing the brush bar to remove hair/debris is so much easier than the previous vacuum, however, and the attachments work wonderfully. I just want to vacuum without it being a workout.

Hi Carrie, this is Krystal with Dyson. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on the Dyson Small Ball Multifloor. I am sorry to hear about the unique experience. The Dyson Small Ball Multifloor is designed for most common floor types and has a lever on the cleaner head to help adjust the suction. I would value the opportunity to address this in more detail and want to ensure your vacuum is working as intended. Feel free to contact us at askdysonUS@dyson.com and we will be happy to help.

I bought this to replace my brilliant DC-14 after years of excellent performance. I was told that this was the comparable model. Got it home & rigged up... Cons: Feels cheaper - less sturdy - than previous generations. The back "wheels" are hard plastic can be harsh on your hardwood floors. When moving it in locked position tilted back on the back wheels, the slightest pause or bump causes the intake to fall down. The wand can only be used with the power cord completely uncoiled. Pros: suction is very good. Emptys easily. Light. Long power cord. It is an efficient vacuum cleaner out of the box, but it feels less durable than previous Dysons I've had and I've got a few niggles that may be down to personal preference, or perhaps I should just have gotten the big one.

I wanted to replace a canister vacuum that I had originally purchased because I (mistakenly) believed that it would be easier to manage on stairs. I was considering a cordless Dyson when I saw the Small Ball online. I couldn't be more pleased with it. The power cord is long enough to get the cleaner to the bottom of the stairs and the machine itself is small and light enough to either carry on the stairs or perch on a stair. It stores easily - its small size nestles in the corner of a closet. Perhaps best of all is the incredible suction. The carpets look much cleaner. The one difficulty is that the strength of the suction means that I need to work a bit harder pushing the cleaner when vacuuming my new, thicker carpet.

    Great vacuum

I bought this vacuum 1 month ago. So far, Small Ball is great: lightweight, compact, easy on the eyes. It makes vacuuming large areas a breeze and is really easy to maneuver in smaller spaces. It picked up all the dust, dirt, and hair off the carpet and porcelain floor so easily. I like the dummy proof setup with mainly pictures to help you. My only drawback is that the quick release for disposal is not so quick. The multiple cyclones at the top of the vacuum form a tight space between the container itself so it's pretty hard to get ALL the dirt out without a contraption (I used a bamboo skewer). Otherwise, happy with the purchase.

I loved its size, mobility and ease of emptying the collection cup, but this machine has such a ferocious grip, we couldn't move the darn thing back and forth across the pile on the carpet without physically lifting it up (a struggle because of its preternatural suction grip) and putting it back down on another part of the carpet. I swear I thought it was pulling the carpet right off it's tacking. Needless to say, we returned it. Instead got a Shark, comparable features and size, less money, but actually vacuums and is easy to push/pull over the carpeting, as well as engineered wood flooring. Wanted to get a Dyson, but not sure how other owners of this brand, or the Small Ball model, handle such ridiculous suction!

Hi there, this is Krystal with Dyson. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on the Dyson Small Ball Multifloor. I am sorry to hear that you were less than satisfied with the performance and have returned your machine.

The Dyson Small Ball features a suction control lever in the cleaner head which would have helped with this issue.

We understand that you have already returned your machine however, we will be happy to address any questions or concerns you have as comments from consumers who use our products and services over time are very valuable to the development of future products.

Let me start by saying, I am novice, at best, when it comes to cleaning. All of the lessons my mother tried to bestow upon me were lost in translation. But being a tech-y guy who is "moving up" in life, I found it time to start taking care of my place. A vacuum was the last thing on my mind, but when I walked past the Appliances Section at my local Best Buy store, I stopped and checked out the Dysons. I had been using an old Bissell that had been a hand-me-down from my brother who may also have inherited it in college. The thing weighed a hundred pounds and had zero suction. In testing the Dyson in store, I was blown away. I ended up buying two - one for my aging mother and one for myself! You can't go wrong with this vacuum!
