• yes it can go from hard surface to rugs but I never use it on carpet.

• Dear Melissa - thanks for your patience & your question. Yes, it will run over the thresholds and move from carpet to hard floors. It will also sense the carpet, and stop dispensing water if you were mopping the hard floor and it runs on to carpet. Thanks again!
