Just like yourself, my dad has an Xfinity modem/router. I helped him replace only the router functions and kept the cable modem functions on the Xfinity device. I installed an Eero 3-pack WIFI mesh system (not the Pro version which is pricier). The 3 devices are identical and each could function as a stand-alone router for up to 1500 sq ft. But when used together, only 1 of the devices is used as a "master" router and is connected to the Xfinity modem using an ethernet cable. The 2 remaining devices are used as "router/beacons" and are installed one at time using the app. It is very easy to install. You just plug each into a wall socket using the a/c cord. The app finds the device and does the install which takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute for each device. Once a device is installed you can install the next one. If you have an extra large house, you may consider getting more devices to expand your WiFi territory. Remember that this mesh system allows more users to access your WiFi using the Eero devices which must be no more than 50 feet apart. So far it has worked better and faster than the old WiFi extender and has had no lost connections. Note: Eero also sells devices that are just beacons which are lower in price but I don't recommend these as they are limited to just being "beacons" and can never be used as "routers". FYI, if you are within the 15 day return period, you may want to replace the Arlo Pro camera with a Ring camera/chime via app which uses its own "beacon" to connect to the Wifi system. Otherwise, you will still be ok with the Arlo Pro camera connecting to the Eero mesh system.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I also have a cable modem with Xfinity. My house now has seven eero devices (which may be more than I need but it works). One of them connects to cable modem and the others are strategically placed around the house. Works a trick.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If the only reason to get a router is for the arlo camera, then just get a wifi repeater. If you want want to expand wifi coverage in your home for other reasons, then you can't go wrong with the eero pro 3 pack. They're easy to use and provide excellent coverage.
