I have the same experience. I do not believe the WF-7840 has true single-pass scanning capability. I do not see a second scan head anywhere on the device. My previous Brother MFC had two scan heads and did single pass scanning. I cannot find any setting on the Epson that would indicate otherwise, and the User Guide doesn't mention single pass under Scan Settings.

Choose that option and then change the setting to "1-Sided," and that will enable single-pass scanning on the WF-7840. Regards, Kevin - The Epson Team.
