Typically - in my past 10-20 years of building and playing on computers, Nvidia has always been way more reliable and powerful. Also, you will want the extra 2GB of VRam for today's games.

If your computer cannot handle running a graphics card like the 1060, then you will not be able to get the full potential out of the card and are better of with the 580. Hope that helps.
