A:AnswerIt does "advertise" that it monitors heart rate. I have yet to have mine calculate heart rate appropriately. I have found the hands on measure with your fingers to your pulse is more accurate.

A:AnswerAt my job we have signal however in the basement we do not. I receive the motivational alerts to move in the basement and it tracks my steps in the basement also. If I try to sync my phone with it that will not work as there is no signal but the alta itself does.

This device is not intended to record that type of information. There are other fit bit devices, not the Alta that measures heart rate, but a medical device made specifically for that purpose would be more accurate.
A:AnswerI believe the only difference between small and large is the wrist band size. When I bought mine, the Best Buy Rep measured my wrist and said I needed the small. No functional differences.
